Stage and Screen Highlights
For the past 30 years, Rosie’s hats have adorned the heads of Australia’s leading stage and screen performers, and have featured in some of the Australian film industry’s best-known and most successful productions. Collaborating with Oscar-winning producers and costume designers, Rosie has created hats for the lead and supporting characters in Moulin Rouge, Australia, The Piano, Oscar and Lucinda, Peter Pan and Babe: Pig in the City. Most recently, her creations featured in Baz Luhrmann’s film The Great Gatsby.
The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge both won Academy awards for Best Costume Design, with The Piano and Australia nominated for the award in the same category. Rosie has also worked on Broadway, in the touring productions La Boheme and The King and I, and has created character headwear for major musicals including Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia, The Lion King, Love Never Dies and Les Miserables.
Increasingly, Rosie’s headwear has featured on the small screen, as cinematic television series have become a popular alternative to feature films.
Rosie has recently created character pieces for The Secret River, A Place to Call Home, Banished and Ben Hall. Whether for the large or small screen, Rosie believes her collaborative approach, craft skills and an understanding of character allow her to support the costume designer and the story telling-helping to establish a visual language that defines the characters and their world.
